Chablis Grand Cru

A limestone-driven wine, powerful and exceptionally elegant.

Chablis Wine

The Aristocratic
Grand Cru

On one of the most prestigious climats of Chablis, the Grenouilles from Domaine Daniel-Étienne Defaix stands out as a Grand Cru of rare distinction. Born from an exceptional and limited terroir, crafted with uncompromising precision, this wine reveals a dense, mineral and harmonious expression — a rare balance of power and finesse.

History &
Ownership

The Defaix Estate is one of the few proprietors of the Grenouilles climat, the smallest of Chablis’ seven Grands Crus (covering only about 9 hectares in total). The Grenouilles vines were planted in 1960.

Grenouilles rests on Kimmeridgian limestone marl, rich in marine fossils — the signature soil of Chablis’ greatest terroirs. This south-facing slope offers ideal sun exposure, allowing the Chardonnay to reach optimal ripeness.

Grenouilles represents one of the most refined — perhaps even one of the most “elite” — expressions of the Chablis terroir.
